It's Time For the Christmas Tour!

Welcome! It's that time of year again. Time for the annual Christmas Tour of Homes hosted by The Nester. So come right on in...

Vince did a nice job brightening up the outside of our house this year. I was so happy that he finally got to hang up my huge twinkling wreath. We haven't had a good spot for it in several years.

And here is the front door. I actually combined a couple of wreaths this year, layering the small one with the *welcome, friends* sign over a large evergreen one.

Step inside where the bubble lights greet you around the inside of the front door. I loved the way these turned out!

Bubble lights are so fun! It's also been a few years since I've used these and it was good to *see* them again.
Hanging near the front door is our Christmas card wreath. Getting card in the mail from friends and family far and near is one of my favorite things about the holiday season.

And here is my vintage (circa 1960's) Santa on the hall tree to greet you. Handsome, isn't he?

The hall tree is decorated with a holly garland, a berry garland and a jingle bell garland, along with some vintage postcard plaques. The tree reflects beautifully in it!

Here is our family tree. You can find more detail about it here. I'm sorry you can't see my tree skirt~it's an antique crazy quilt and I adore it!

Here's that little *Merry Christmas* plaque that I picked up back in the fall.

My Dicken's Village, which is displayed on top of our living room bookcases.

More Dicken's Village...

And more of the village...

One last shot of the village.

Our stockings are hung on the fireplace. Although, I'm very disappointed in the mantle. I'm convinced that it was a man who came up with the idea of putting tv's over the fireplace. There's no way to decorate the mantle, because you can't access your vhs/dvd player if you do. So other than the stockings, you can't really do much. But at least I'm getting to use my stocking holders~it's been a few years for those, too.

My favorite nativity...I did a whole post on my nativities. You can check it out here.

Some garland and bows over the living room window adds some festive-ness.

My cute nutcrackers that my children love!

Now we're moving into the master bedroom. I added some mistletoe to the *peace* garland this year~doesn't it look romantic?

This is a grouping of vintage Christmas/New Year postcards and greeting cards on the memo board by my desk.

Here's my adorable tinsel tree with the tiny vintage Shiny Brites that I always put in our bedroom. It makes me smile:)
And I love the cute vintage-looking Teena Flanners village and accessories grouped by the tree.

One more shot of my little tree:)

I grouped these happy little snowmen in the master bath this year. It's their first time to venture in there, but they look great!

Now let's move down the hallway to the other bedrooms. Here's my little *hallway tree* that has my mini ornaments on it and my grandma's vintage tinsel garland.
The hallway is also where we have my childhood Advent calendar, but I forgot to add a picture here (Blogger is being a pain about editing photos), but you can check out the post I did about our calendar here.

This is The Princess' tree. Getting pretty full, huh? She did a lot of the decorating this year and had so much fun!
Here's her little village made from paper mache houses that I painted for her. She has been so cute arranging her things around her room.

Mr. B is pretty proud of his tree. He just loves to look at his ornaments~it's really cute!

This is a tiny village that I put in his room, too. I actually bought this village before I was married and I still think it so sweet.

The hallway mirror has a little bling on it...and a nice reflection of the kiddos' bathroom.

A handsome Santa for the vanity.

Mr. & Mrs. Snowman are looking all festive here, too.

On into the Learning Room...this is a Christmas tree wall hanging from Guatemala.

The only other decor I put in here was this *Merry Christmas* garland and the snowbunnies garland.

Let's make a stop in the kitchen before you have to go. This is what my kiddos call the *food* tree~it has all fruit & veggie ornaments on it. And that is the cutest snowman cookie jar, it was a gift from a friend years ago.

My joy letters that I made a couple of years ago are gracing the wall by my cookbooks.
And my 35-year-old elf is looking pretty good, isn't he? What a cutie!

This year I once again had a good place to display my Christmas tins. My mom used to get one each year for me and my sister until we just about had too many:) I actually use them as needed, too.
But if they aren't in use, they look pretty cute on top of my cabinets alongside my blue and white china.
I'm looking forward to filling many of them with cookies very soon though!

Some Christmas recipes on display along with a cute snowman candleholder.

If you were here, we could dig into that cookie tin and share some chocolate chip cookies! I'll eat one for you:)
Thanks so much for dropping by! I hope that you have a very wonderful and blessed Christmas!!
And don't forget to check out all the other home tours over at Nesting Place.

Yes, that was a Peanuts tin:) I love it, it's one of my bigger ones and I use it just about every year for goodies!
Musings of a Housewife~
That snow is a new kind (to me) that I found @ Wal-Mart this year. It's called *Buffalo Snow* and is way cheaper and better than using quilt batting:)
Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the sweet comments. Your house looks so warm and inviting all spruced up for Christmas. I love your tree! It looks like it holds many special memories for you and your family. Your "JOY" letters are awesome too, very creative! Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Your stuff is so cute! I do have a question for you though. How do you store all of your things? You must have boxes and boxes of stuff.

Your home is beautiful! I especially like the Dicken's village. I have a small collection. I live in a 900 square foot house, so don't have room for more! Thanks for stopping by my blog. The Japanese don't decorate their homes like we do. The downtown area of where we live is all decked out and I can't wait to go see all the lights. This is a predominately buddhist country, but you will see "Merry Christmas" everywhere!

That is seriously impressive!! I don't have enough decorations to do the new house. I hope to hit some really great post-Christmas sales for decorations :)

The Making of an Egyptian Death Mask

We are learning all about the ancient world this year with Story of the World I and loving it! We've been learning a lot about Egypt, of course, which is completely fascinating. Most recently we have studied the New Kingdom of Egypt, which includes the story of King Tut. So we decided making an Egyptian death mask in the style of King Tut's would be a fun project. First since it was too cold at the time to paper mache in the garage (it probably would have frozen instead of dried-ha) and it was too messy to do it in the house, we decided to pick up a couple of cheap craft masks at Hobby Lobby. Next we cut out cardboard shapes to complete the shape of the death mask, attaching them with hot glue. Vince even put a little detail on the *beard* with the hot glue per The Princess' request. Then the kiddos started to paint them with this metallic gold tempera paint. It worked okay for the cardboard, but would not coat the plastic of the mask. We thought maybe a second coat

Door Hanger Chore Charts

My kids have had a chore chart for a while.  It's one of those magnetic boards and they share it.  However, it's not by their rooms and often they (and I) forget to update it.  Plus it's a little bulky.   When I saw the concept of a door hanger chore chart on Pinterest, I loved it!  It was compact, right there were the kiddos could see it coming out and going into their rooms, and it costs almost nothing to make.   I headed over to one of my favorite stores: Hobby Lobby, of course.  They  have these little wooden door hangers for .79.  I also grabbed a couple of packets of decorative buttons for $1.99 each.  I already had the clothes pins and the paint so those cost me nothing.   I began by painting the door hangers (I used tempera paints because that's what I had).  Then I grabbed a fine point Sharpie and the clothes pins and started writing chores on them, making sure to write them correctly so they will clip on the right direction.   The left

1st Day Back to {home}School, Among Other Things

We did it! We finally got unpacked enough and got our new learning room organized enough to start back to school! Frankly, I was starting to get worried...ha Today went very well though. So far I am extremely pleased with our new curriculum choices for math and language arts. Now, if I could just actually get some lesson planning done... And get the finishing touches done in the learning room, so I can blog it! In other news, it has been a bit of a traumatic week...pet-wise. Last weekend a sweet friend (who had asked my permission beforehand) brought the kiddos their very own little fish tank with two goldfish. Well, on Sunday we noticed that The Princess' fish was pretty lethargic...dead, actually. She was sad, but she handled it fairly well. And we went to the store that evening and let her pick out a new goldfish. Well, today during our school time~the fish tank is in our learning room~we noticed Mr. B's fish was acting funny. And then he was dead. It was a
