Saying *Goodbye* to Caffeine

Yesterday it was officially a month since I gave up caffeine.

Yikes! Did I really just say that? It seems so unreal. I mean, Coca Cola is my drug of choice, people!

Now, to be completely honest, I still have my 1-2 cups of coffee in the mornings. I bought some decaf coffee and just mixed it with the regular coffee that I had left (I'm too frugal to just dump it), so technically my coffee has been half-caf for this past month.

I think that's probably a very good thing though since it seems to have kept me from having any headaches from withdrawal. But I'm well on my way to being totally caffeine-free.

Why am I doing this to myself? Well, for reasons I may go into later. Right now let's just say "for health reasons". Isn't it amazing what we can give up when our health is really threatened?

I never thought I could or would give up caffeine. And even though there have a been a few moments this past month when I would have given my left arm for a Route 44 Vanilla Coke from Sonic (like I said, my drug of choice), I really haven't thought twice about giving it up. It was something that needed to be done. And now it's done.

The immediate benefits of this are 1) I've improved my health already 2) it's cheaper to drink water when you're out to eat 3) it's easier to convince your kids they also want water when you're drinking it yourself.

The long-term benefits have yet to be realized, but I hope they will be many.

How about you? Are you addicted to caffeine or have you said "goodbye" to it?

I had that sonic drink yesterday and I'm totally addicted to pop. Ugh, conviction.... :)

Girl, do I hear ya - Rt 44 Cherry Vanilla Diet Coke and Mocha Frappe from Mcd's are what I live on. I know they are both terrible, but when I try to cut it out, I do get terrible migraines. I need to work on it, though...like Rikki said, convicted!! Following from http://thequinnfamily6.blogspot.com
Oh, addicted here to coffee. Totally Unfortunately. I keep telling myself that I will give it up but it doesn't happen. I actually just bought a huge can of 1/2 caf yesterday -then thought this morning I should just stop drinking coffee!
I've almost given up sugar so... the coffee stays for now ;)

*and the recipe I posted on my blog this morning definitely is packed with sugar! ;)
Please don't feel any condemnation from here, ladies!
I never thought I would give up caffeine. I have surprised myself at my willingness to do so for my health.
Although I don't think I want to give up coffee completely, just switching over to decaf there:) I would probably see some serious weight loss if I did give it up entirely though, since I fill mine so full of hazelnut creamer and sugar...but that's another post:)

Congrats on cutting out the caffeine. I've been trying really hard too for health reasons as well. I've got it down to one cup of coffee a day and one coke or glass of tea a day. It's tough for me but I know it will help me. I get headaches too but it's getting better. Keep it up! :)

Dave and I quit drinking pop about 2 years ago, and it was one of the best decisions ever! You will love how you feel a month or so after you completely quick. Its amazing how great water tastes once its all you really drink. :)
WOW! So happy for you. I drink about 10 cans of Dt. DP a day and sometimes more. I do make myself drink just as much water. I would love to be strong enough to let it go!

Congrats!

I drink my coffee in the morning, and occasionally in the afternoon - but we've been water drinkers out to eat for a long time now (it's the frugal in me)! Good for you!
Heidi,
It is so much more frugal to just order water at restaurants! I usually didn't b/c it was sort of my *treat* since I never buy pop at home anyway. Now the occasional Sprite is my *treat*...haha

We are not big soda drinkers here. I do occasionally (maybe 1 a month)drink Dr. Pepper. I do like coffee and drink 1-2 cups in the morning. But, a few months ago I read of all the benefits of coffee from several different health articles....Probably not full of sugar and creamer as I like mine, but I do believe coffee is better than soda. Sodas have a lot of junk in them.

The Making of an Egyptian Death Mask

We are learning all about the ancient world this year with Story of the World I and loving it! We've been learning a lot about Egypt, of course, which is completely fascinating. Most recently we have studied the New Kingdom of Egypt, which includes the story of King Tut. So we decided making an Egyptian death mask in the style of King Tut's would be a fun project. First since it was too cold at the time to paper mache in the garage (it probably would have frozen instead of dried-ha) and it was too messy to do it in the house, we decided to pick up a couple of cheap craft masks at Hobby Lobby. Next we cut out cardboard shapes to complete the shape of the death mask, attaching them with hot glue. Vince even put a little detail on the *beard* with the hot glue per The Princess' request. Then the kiddos started to paint them with this metallic gold tempera paint. It worked okay for the cardboard, but would not coat the plastic of the mask. We thought maybe a second coat

Door Hanger Chore Charts

My kids have had a chore chart for a while.  It's one of those magnetic boards and they share it.  However, it's not by their rooms and often they (and I) forget to update it.  Plus it's a little bulky.   When I saw the concept of a door hanger chore chart on Pinterest, I loved it!  It was compact, right there were the kiddos could see it coming out and going into their rooms, and it costs almost nothing to make.   I headed over to one of my favorite stores: Hobby Lobby, of course.  They  have these little wooden door hangers for .79.  I also grabbed a couple of packets of decorative buttons for $1.99 each.  I already had the clothes pins and the paint so those cost me nothing.   I began by painting the door hangers (I used tempera paints because that's what I had).  Then I grabbed a fine point Sharpie and the clothes pins and started writing chores on them, making sure to write them correctly so they will clip on the right direction.   The left

1st Day Back to {home}School, Among Other Things

We did it! We finally got unpacked enough and got our new learning room organized enough to start back to school! Frankly, I was starting to get worried...ha Today went very well though. So far I am extremely pleased with our new curriculum choices for math and language arts. Now, if I could just actually get some lesson planning done... And get the finishing touches done in the learning room, so I can blog it! In other news, it has been a bit of a traumatic week...pet-wise. Last weekend a sweet friend (who had asked my permission beforehand) brought the kiddos their very own little fish tank with two goldfish. Well, on Sunday we noticed that The Princess' fish was pretty lethargic...dead, actually. She was sad, but she handled it fairly well. And we went to the store that evening and let her pick out a new goldfish. Well, today during our school time~the fish tank is in our learning room~we noticed Mr. B's fish was acting funny. And then he was dead. It was a
