Slow-Cooker BBQ Ribs

Slow-Cooker BBQ Ribs
3 1/2 lbs. pork loin back ribs
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
3 Tbls. liquid smoke
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1 medium onion, sliced
1/2 cup cola
1 1/2 cups bbq sauce
Spray the inside of slow cooker with cooking spray. Remove inner skin from ribs. Mix sugar, salt, pepper, liquid smoke and garlic; rub mixture into the ribs. Cut ribs into 4" pieces. Layer ribs and onions in slow cooker. Pour cola over ribs. Cover and cook on low 8-9 hours. Remove ribs; drain and discard liquid. Pour bbq sauce into shallow bowl. Dip ribs into sauce. Place ribs back into slow cooker. Pour any remaining sauce over ribs. Cover and cook for 1 more hour.
I can't remember where I got this recipe, but we've enjoyed it for a few years now. The flavor is really good! My only problem is sometimes the ribs I cook are tough. Do you all have any good tips on how to buy tender ribs? Are there any sure bets? I'd love to know because I'm not that experienced in cooking ribs. We do love 'em though!

Well, they look delish! I seal mine unseasoned with foil and cook in the oven on low for 4-5 hours. Then broil them or put them on the grill with the sauce at the end. The meat just falls off the bone. I don't see why the slow cooker would do it any different than that, though. I can almost smell those...yum!

They do look delicious. I boil mine and then put them in a casserole dish, pour sauce over them and bake in the oven for 30 to 45 minutes.

I've been wanting to try doing ribs in the crock. I have no idea what kind to buy though. I keep meaning to ask Rick's mom (who makes GREAT ribs) if spare ribs are any good since they are usually on sale. Thanks for the recipe!

Whenever I want to enjoy tender pork ribs, I grill them using our charcoal bbq. I've had them cooked in a slow cooker before, but it didn't taste as good as grilled. The flavor that charcoal barbeques bring to pork is just so awesome that it can't be imitated by any other form of cooking or sauce.

But if you really want to know how to make them tender, here's how: par-boil them first. Place the pork ribs on a wide skillet with water. Bring it to a boil, and then turn the heat down to simmer with a cover until they're tender. It's that easy!
