A Blog-o-versary Giveaway!!

**This is a sticky post and will remain up until the giveaway is over Saturday, January 10th. For more recent posts, please scroll down. Thanks!!**

Today is the one year anniversary of My Blessed Life--whoo hoo!! It's been such a fun year. I've really enjoyed getting to *know* so many wonderful bloggy friends--y'all are awesome! And it's helped me keep in better touch with far away family and friends. I'm highly addicted to this whole blog thing-ha!

So to celebrate I thought I'd host a little giveaway. Sounds like fun, huh?! The winner will receive:

The Junior League at Home:
Meals and Menus
for Every
Day and Special Occasions

This is a wonderful cookbook--as are all Junior League cookbooks!! I've never been a member, but I do love their cookbooks:) This one has contributions from Junior Leagues around the nation. What I really liked about it (besides the delicious recipes) was all of the wonderful menu plans. It has great plans for just about any occasion and holiday. I think you'll love it!

Then since I absolutely love vintage linens, I thought I'd add in a set of embroidered vintage tea towels that I found one day out *junking*. They're so cute!

And, finally, in the spirit of friendship and my love of letter-writing, I'm also giving away a set of stationery.
I have been a letter-writer since I could actually write (so age 5 or so) and I've loved it ever since. And even though I often choose to go the modern way of email these days, I still love a hand-written letter--both writing them and receiving them!

So if you would like to win this little blog-o-versary package, please leave me a comment here. It doesn't matter if you have a blog or not, join the fun! (If you don't have a blog though, please leave an email address so that I can contact you if you win!). I'll accept comments on this until Saturday, January 10th. Feel free to tell your friends and link to it if you'd like. If you do and you let me know, I'll enter you twice:)

Happy blogoversary, Lora! Looks like I came back to catch up at the right time. This is a great idea. I'm going to have to remember to do something fun like this when I hit the one year point.

I'm catching up on what I missed the last month with all my bloggy friends, so I'm working my way backwards now!

This is a very generous giveaway...I love Junior League Cookbooks. Have you visited Mary at Across the Pond? The last few days she has had beautiful posts about letter writing.
You might enjoy them if you haven't already been over there.

Happy anniversary on your beautiful blog!

Happy Blogoversary!!

I'm entering the contest (thanks for letting me know about it) even though I've been a horrible friend lately by not checking in, and probably don't deserve to win.

Then again...maybe I deserve to win as one of your original pen pals from years gone by. I even still have some of those early hand-written letters from you. I'll have to get some out and scan them in sometime. You never know...maybe they'll show up in a post someday!

I really miss catching up with you via the blogosphere! I don't have to tell you how crazy things have been, but I hope to catch up soon!

Love you!

The Reading Game: A Review

I was excited to receive this review product recently, thinking my 1st-grade-son could really benefit and enjoy it a lot. And I was right! He is having so much fun with this game. The Reading Game is a fast-paced memory card game using words. The game comes with 6 sets of memory cards with 6 corresponding readers. The idea is for you and your student to play memory with each set of cards (playing 6 rounds with each set), after every 2 rounds your student then reads 2 test sentences to see how he is retaining the new words he is learning. After the whole set has been played, he is then ready to read the corresponding reader...and has learned 30 new words! By the time your student has played every set of cards and read every reader, he will have learned 180 words. Of the 25 most common English words, 23 are on that list; of the 50 most common words, 42 are on that list. So this little game of reading really does prepare your student well. The readers are illustrated with cute ...

The Making of an Egyptian Death Mask

We are learning all about the ancient world this year with Story of the World I and loving it! We've been learning a lot about Egypt, of course, which is completely fascinating. Most recently we have studied the New Kingdom of Egypt, which includes the story of King Tut. So we decided making an Egyptian death mask in the style of King Tut's would be a fun project. First since it was too cold at the time to paper mache in the garage (it probably would have frozen instead of dried-ha) and it was too messy to do it in the house, we decided to pick up a couple of cheap craft masks at Hobby Lobby. Next we cut out cardboard shapes to complete the shape of the death mask, attaching them with hot glue. Vince even put a little detail on the *beard* with the hot glue per The Princess' request. Then the kiddos started to paint them with this metallic gold tempera paint. It worked okay for the cardboard, but would not coat the plastic of the mask. We thought maybe a second coat ...

Door Hanger Chore Charts

My kids have had a chore chart for a while.  It's one of those magnetic boards and they share it.  However, it's not by their rooms and often they (and I) forget to update it.  Plus it's a little bulky.   When I saw the concept of a door hanger chore chart on Pinterest, I loved it!  It was compact, right there were the kiddos could see it coming out and going into their rooms, and it costs almost nothing to make.   I headed over to one of my favorite stores: Hobby Lobby, of course.  They  have these little wooden door hangers for .79.  I also grabbed a couple of packets of decorative buttons for $1.99 each.  I already had the clothes pins and the paint so those cost me nothing.   I began by painting the door hangers (I used tempera paints because that's what I had).  Then I grabbed a fine point Sharpie and the clothes pins and started writing chores on them, making sure to write them correctly so they will ...
