I've been hearing about this book for a while now. At first the title threw me off, I thought it was a novel or something. However, it is a book about *repainting the Christian faith*. What the author, Rob Bell, is saying by that is simply digging in and "asking the difficult questions of what it means to be a Christian here and now, in this place, in this time".
This book really spoke to me--I plan to read it again very soon and ponder it some more (even the endnotes are awesome!). Rob Bell's writing is very transparent and challenging. He digs deep into the history and foundations of the Christian faith, making our faith even more relevant for today.
So if you'd like to get real with your faith and ask yourself some soul-searching questions, this would be a wonderful book to read. I highly recommend it. It makes you (*gasp*) THINK!! I'll leave you with what Rob Bell says on the back cover:
We have to test everything.
I thank God for anybody anywhere who is pointing people to the mysteries of God.
But those people would all tell you to think long and hard about what
they are saying and doing and creating.
Test it. Probe it.
Do that to this book.
Don't swallow it uncritically. Think about it. Wrestle with it.
Just because I'm a Christian and I'm trying to articulate a Christian worldview
doesn't mean I've got it nailed. I'm contributing to the discussion.
God has spoken, and the rest is commentary, right?
