Boy, Do I Have News For You!

I'm sure some of you have been wondering about me lately, what with my sporadic and random postings (at least that's what it feels like to me) and there being absolutely no mention of decorating the house we recently moved into.

That's because I really haven't been decorating and we still have boxes sitting around.

And I'll tell you why...

When we signed the lease on this house in March we had to sign for a year, but we thought that would be okay because we thought we would likely be here most of that time if not the entirety. However, God had some different plans for us. And they began to reveal themselves within 2 weeks of moving into this house. (Thus my complete lack of motivation to unpack more boxes!).

To make a somewhat lengthy story short, God has opened up a wonderful ministry opportunity for our family! We have been asked to be~and it is now confirmed just this past weekend that we will be~the next pastors of Christ Community Church in Hopkinsville, KY. We are SO excited about what God has in store for that town and our new community.

Vince was invited to come and speak back in April and that is when the process began. It's been a very good process, too. The people there have been so welcoming and kind and we love the area!

Back to our home lease...what happened there is nothing short of a miracle. Our contract was pretty airtight and we decided to simply throw ourselves at the mercy of our landlords. I should have known that God would already be working behind the scenes because talking with the owners couldn't have gone more smoothly. They completely released us from our contract, simply asking for 30 days notice and the ability to show the house as needed. Turns out, they also have family in ministry and know what it's like to need to move when the call comes. God is so good!

Oh~and did I mention that we went a couple of weeks ago on a quick overnight trip to look at houses in that area? And did I tell you that we found one that we REALLY liked A LOT?! Well, we made an offer on it this past weekend (in faith) to sort of get the ball rolling. They countered back an offer~which just happened to be the amount Vince and I had settled on as our final offer. So we ACCEPTED their counter offer!! It looks like we'll be moving to Kentucky the first week of August. July is going to be one busy month!

I can't wait to be a homeowner again!! I have so many ideas floating around in my mind, I can hardly wait to get settled in and start decorating! You'll definitely be hearing all about that.

So there you have it...our BIG NEWS!!

Yes, that means I am once again packing. But this time I do it with a sense of purpose, knowing that we are putting down roots and becoming planted into God's plan for our future. It's very exciting!

The Making of an Egyptian Death Mask

We are learning all about the ancient world this year with Story of the World I and loving it! We've been learning a lot about Egypt, of course, which is completely fascinating. Most recently we have studied the New Kingdom of Egypt, which includes the story of King Tut. So we decided making an Egyptian death mask in the style of King Tut's would be a fun project. First since it was too cold at the time to paper mache in the garage (it probably would have frozen instead of dried-ha) and it was too messy to do it in the house, we decided to pick up a couple of cheap craft masks at Hobby Lobby. Next we cut out cardboard shapes to complete the shape of the death mask, attaching them with hot glue. Vince even put a little detail on the *beard* with the hot glue per The Princess' request. Door Hanger Chore Charts

My kids have had a chore chart for a while.  It's one of those magnetic boards and they share it.  However, it's not by their rooms and often they (and I) forget to update it.  Plus it's a little bulky.   When I saw the concept of a door hanger chore chart on Pinterest, I loved it!  It was compact, right there were the kiddos could see it coming out and going into their rooms, and it costs almost nothing to make.   I headed over to one of my favorite stores: Hobby Lobby, of course.  They  have these little wooden door hangers for .79.  I also grabbed a couple of packets of decorative buttons for $1.99 each.  I already had the clothes pins and the paint so those cost me nothing.   I began by painting the door hangers (I used tempera paints because that's what I had).  Then I grabbed a fine point Sharpie and the clothes pins and started writing chores on them, making sure to write them correctly so they will ...

Fun With 4th of July Crafts: Part 3

I love my new patriotic front door wreath!! I had fun putting this together, although I must admit this is more of an adult craft than one for kiddos. I was inspired by this article in Family Fun magazine. I didn't have quite everything I needed for this one, but all I had to purchase was a few sheets of scrapbook paper and some double-sided tape. Then all I had to gather up were some scissors, regular Scotch tape, a ruler and some cardboard. First I cut four (5"x 6") pieces of each paper. Then by placing a piece of double-sided tape on one of the short ends of the papers, I rolled them into cones, pressing the seams together well. Then I cut a 10" circle out of cardboard and began to stick the cones on it. I used another piece of double-sided tape to stick the cones on, arranging them in a circular pattern.
