I always look forward to books published by Apologia. They are a company of excellence and I am never disappointed by them. Journeys of Faithfulness is no exception. "Stories of life and faith for young Christian women" just scratches the surface.
This book by Sarah Clarkson is absolutely beautifully written. I believe this is Sarah's second published work, but it's my first one of hers to read. I am so impressed with her writing. Her ability to bring fresh perspective to a Bible story that I've heard hundreds of times is amazing. She draws you into the story, connects you personally with a character in it and then brings out real-life lessons to which one can so relate. She has taking familiar Bible passages about well-known ladies and added fictional thoughts, conversations, scenarios that could have happened~of course, we don't know because we only have an often short and straight-forward telling of the events. By taking a peek, so to speak, more closely into these ladies lives we dig deeper into our own hearts.
This book is written in four parts:
- Mary & Martha
- Mary, Mother of Jesus
- Esther
- Ruth
In each part there are three chapters developing the characters in the story, drawing out so many truths and lessons for people, but women especially. At the close of each chapter there is a devotional where Sarah shares from the depths of her own heart and experiences. Immediately following the devotional there is a Bible study page with Scripture passages to look up and some questions to help you dig deeper. Sarah even gives several journaling pages at the very end of each chapter for you to record your thoughts.
The first chapter in Part One is offered online for you to sample.
Journeys of Faithfulness is recommended for girls ages 12 & up. My daughter is 9 and isn't quite ready for this book, but it is one that I look forward to sharing with her in the future. This would make a wonderful group Bible study for young women. However, it's certainly not just for young women, but women of all ages will enjoy and gain insights from it. I know that I have!
I look forward to reading more from Sarah. I have been a long-time fan of her parents' (Clay & Sally Clarkson) books and their positive influence in her life definitely shines through.
This book is available through Apologia for $13.00. It is a nicely-sized paperback, 232 pages long. I encourage you to check it out.
